Tires: Nitrogen vs Air Filled

Tires: Nitrogen vs Air Filled – Everything You Need To Know

Proudly Serving Wayne Since 1975

You should regularly check some items on your car to make sure that they aren’t too low: Oil, gas, coolant, and tire pressure are the top four. If any of these are too low, your car may not run efficiently, cause significant damage, and risk your safety.

Tire pressure is important whether you are driving short or long distances; a quick drive home from work or a weekend road trip.  For instance, low tire pressure increases the risk of blowouts and compromises traction. That’s why you should consider inflating your tires with the best element possible, nitrogen.

Nitrogen Tire Inflation

Inflating your tires with nitrogen will not only make your tires more durable but also increase the time between air refills and tire replacement. Believe it or not, compressed air is actually bad for your tires. It’s composed of 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, and 1% everything else. Oxygen contributes to tire deterioration, whereas nitrogen is non-combustible and non-corrosive to rubber tires. Over time, oxygen will change the tire’s structure, causing accelerated tread wear. Because nitrogen is an inert gas, oxidation can’t occur, which is what causes the deterioration in the first place.

Why Is It Important to Have My Tires Properly Inflated?

Inflate tires properly for both your safety and for economic reasons. Driving with under-inflated tires results in poor handling, longer stopping times, and uses more gas.

Of course, life happens, and tires can and will lose pressure for various reasons, whether filled with nitrogen or oxygen. Tires can lose pressure because of a puncture or hole, wear, or temperature changes. However, filling your tires with nitrogen reduces unnecessary wear and tear. Whichever option you choose, we recommend monthly tire inspections.

The best part? We offer a $200 tire warranty for up to one year. So, if your tire gets punctured or damaged unexpectedly, we’ve got you covered.
